Mrs. Jessicaās class had a blast last week bringing the story "Balloons Over Broadway" to life. They learned about the puppeteer behind the Macy's Parade and created their own balloons. Then, they had their very own parade through the school!
A huge thank you to Mrs. Dori (SLP) and Mrs. Phyllis (OT) for co-teaching with to target specific goals:
Speech & Communication: Students worked on vocabulary and following directions. The parade was the perfect setting to practice social greetings and expressive language! š¬
Fine & Gross Motor Skills: Mrs. Phyllis guided the students in designing their balloons (fine motor precision!) and navigating the hallways while balancing their creations during their school parade (gross motor coordination!). šļøš¶āāļø
Learning is always better when itās hands-on (and fun)!

Shout Out for Mrs. Sami!!

Why this is a huge deal:
This single act requires mastering a complex chain of skills, including:
Fine Motor Skills: Successfully manipulating and releasing the seatbelt buckle.
Sequencing: Remembering the correct steps in the right order (unbuckle - stand up - walk out - walk to class).
Executive Function: Focusing attention and maintaining a plan despite the busy environment of the bus and lunchroom.
Self-Regulation & Confidence: Navigating a public space and making transitions without adult prompting.
This mastery moment is crucial because it builds self-confidence and lays the foundation for future independence and responsibility in all areas of life!
