Because nothing says "Happy Thanksgiving" quite like your favorite teachers dressed as turkeys. We are incredibly thankful for our amazing students, supportive families, and a staff willing to look absolutely ridiculous just to spread some cheer. Have a wonderful, safe, and happy Thanksgiving, everyone! 🧡🍂

What looked like just a parade was actually a learning powerhouse! 🧠✨

Mrs. Jessica’s class had a blast last week bringing the story "Balloons Over Broadway" to life. They learned about the puppeteer behind the Macy's Parade and created their own balloons. Then, they had their very own parade through the school!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Dori (SLP) and Mrs. Phyllis (OT) for co-teaching with to target specific goals:

Speech & Communication: Students worked on vocabulary and following directions. The parade was the perfect setting to practice social greetings and expressive language! 💬

Fine & Gross Motor Skills: Mrs. Phyllis guided the students in designing their balloons (fine motor precision!) and navigating the hallways while balancing their creations during their school parade (gross motor coordination!). 🖐️🚶‍♂️

Learning is always better when it’s hands-on (and fun)!

We were thrilled to welcome Eric, Hope, and Maria from The Transition Team LLC to our campus last week. They led an engaging class focused on Social Emotional Awareness for our students.
As a Community Rehab Provider partnering with ADRS in Huntsville, The Transition Team specializes in preparing individuals for success in the workforce. Mastering social-emotional skills is a massive part of job readiness, and our students gained valuable insights that will help them as they transition toward employment and independence.

Thank you to Eric, Hope, and Maria for investing in our students' futures!

Thanksgiving Break

Why this is a huge deal:

This single act requires mastering a complex chain of skills, including:

Fine Motor Skills: Successfully manipulating and releasing the seatbelt buckle.

Sequencing: Remembering the correct steps in the right order (unbuckle - stand up - walk out - walk to class).

Executive Function: Focusing attention and maintaining a plan despite the busy environment of the bus and lunchroom.

Self-Regulation & Confidence:
Navigating a public space and making transitions without adult prompting.

This mastery moment is crucial because it builds self-confidence and lays the foundation for future independence and responsibility in all areas of life!

What are the Zones of Regulation?

The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum designed to help children (and adults) identify their feelings and energy level and develop tools for self-regulation. It categorizes all the ways we feel and the level of our alertness into four color-coded zones:

  • 💚 Green Zone: This is the ideal state for learning and socializing. It means you're feeling calm, happy, focused, and ready to learn.

  • 💛 Yellow Zone: This means you're starting to lose control. You might be feeling frustrated, anxious, wiggly, excited, or silly. It's a sign to slow down and use a tool (like breathing) to get back to Green.

  • ❤️ Red Zone: This is a state of intense emotion, like anger, terror, or euphoria. This means a person is out of control and needs immediate support to calm down.

  • 💙 Blue Zone: This is a low-energy state. You might feel sad, tired, sick, or bored. This zone signals a need to rest or use an energy-boosting tool.
