Why this is a huge deal:
This single act requires mastering a complex chain of skills, including:
Fine Motor Skills: Successfully manipulating and releasing the seatbelt buckle.
Sequencing: Remembering the correct steps in the right order (unbuckle - stand up - walk out - walk to class).
Executive Function: Focusing attention and maintaining a plan despite the busy environment of the bus and lunchroom.
Self-Regulation & Confidence: Navigating a public space and making transitions without adult prompting.
This mastery moment is crucial because it builds self-confidence and lays the foundation for future independence and responsibility in all areas of life!

What are the Zones of Regulation?
The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum designed to help children (and adults) identify their feelings and energy level and develop tools for self-regulation. It categorizes all the ways we feel and the level of our alertness into four color-coded zones:
š Green Zone: This is the ideal state for learning and socializing. It means you're feeling calm, happy, focused, and ready to learn.
š Yellow Zone: This means you're starting to lose control. You might be feeling frustrated, anxious, wiggly, excited, or silly. It's a sign to slow down and use a tool (like breathing) to get back to Green.
ā¤ļø Red Zone: This is a state of intense emotion, like anger, terror, or euphoria. This means a person is out of control and needs immediate support to calm down.
š Blue Zone: This is a low-energy state. You might feel sad, tired, sick, or bored. This zone signals a need to rest or use an energy-boosting tool.

What a wonderful World Kindness Day! We want to shine a light on our incredible Peer Helpers. Yesterday, our Peer Helpers were busy acting as positive role models, guiding our younger students, and building strong connections. They embody the core mission of this program: empowering students to support their peers and contribute to a positive school climate.
Peer Helpers PLUS is a comprehensive, evidence-based peer-to-peer prevention and support program designed for K-12 schools. Peer Helpers are trained in key skills like communication, active listening, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and knowing when to refer a peer to a counselor or trusted adults to support their peers and contribute to a positive school climate.
Thank you, Peer Mentors, for showing us that Kindness Matters!
