Ms. Walker's Class Page

Summer Walker, an educator with 7 years of teaching experience, leads a specialized classroom known as High School R.I.S.E (Rigorous Individualized Special Education) catering to students in grades 6th-11th. With a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-5) from Athens State University, a Master's in Special Education Collaborative Teacher (6-12th) from the University of West Alabama, and Education Specialist in Special Education: Collaborative Teacher 6-12th, Summer is well-equipped to provide a comprehensive and individualized learning experience.
Assisted by aide Melinda Shedd, Ms. Walker creates a supportive and enriching environment for her students, aiming to make a positive impact on their lives. The focus of the R.I.S.E classroom is on three key areas: Life Skills, Academics, and Social Skills. The goal is to prepare students for future employment and foster independence both at home and in society. The curriculum is designed to empower students with the skills necessary for success in various aspects of their lives. One distinctive feature of Summer's classroom is the integration of community outings into the learning experience. Students actively participate in diverse activities such as dining out, shopping, attending movies, playing laser tag, bowling, and engaging in other local community events. This approach enhances the students' social skills and provides practical, real-world experiences.
Outside of the classroom, Summer loves travel and spend quality time with family.
