Melanie Collier, a highly qualified educator of 19 years, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology/Sociology from UNA, a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from Athens, a Masters in Health and Physical Education, a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership, and an Educational Specialist degree in Special Education. With a rich background that encompasses teaching elementary physical education, self-contained and intervention special education classes, as well as coaching volleyball, tennis, and Special Olympics basketball for a cumulative 9 years, Ms. Collier brings a wealth of experience to her role.
This TARP class, short for Transition And Recovery Program, employs the computer-based program Edmentum, ensuring alignment with the state curriculum. The primary focus of this program is to address and support student behaviors, facilitating their eventual return to their home school environment. It is designed as a strategic intervention to assist students in overcoming challenges and behaviors hindering their educational progress. The overarching goal is to empower students with essential skills, paving the way for them to become independent and contributing members of society. Ms. Collier is supported by her dedicated aide, Jennifer Hammock. Together, they form a collaborative team, ensuring that students receive the guidance and assistance needed to thrive in their educational journey.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Collier finds joy in spending quality time with her family, with a special emphasis on her two beloved grandchildren. Her leisure moments often include playing with her dog, Winnie, tending to her yard, restoring old furniture, and playing the piano. Additionally, Ms. Collier is an avid enthusiast of all things Auburn, showcasing her passion for the university in various aspects of her personal life.
