Elementary RISE is a classroom led by teacher, Alexis Williams, alongside her aides, Amber Thomas and Tiffany Jones. Alexis holds the title of a National Board Certified Exceptional Needs Specialist, with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (PK-12).

Elementary RISE contains students in grades 2-6. The class acronym stands for Rigorous Individualized Special Education. A safe, welcoming, structured, and engaging environment is provided, making it possible for all students to learn academic, life, and social skills. The classroom follows a daily schedule that includes whole group learning and small group rotations and centers and aims to mimic a typical elementary classroom. Students in this class are growing in independence; they have developed many adaptive/daily living skills, can complete work that they understand with minimal help or prompting, and are usually able to sit and learn in whole group and small group settings for 15-20 minutes at a time. Short term goals for this group are for them to rigorously learn missing social, academic, and life skills needed for them to thrive in an inclusion setting with typical peers. Long term goals for these students are for them to be able to transition back into an inclusion setting within their home schools or to become prepared for a community-based instruction class and, ultimately, to become contributing members of their community through jobs and/or volunteer service.

Beyond her commitment to education, Mrs. Williams is a multifaceted individual with a range of passions. She enjoys traveling, exploring the depths through snorkeling and diving, expressing herself through singing and playing the keyboard, unleashing creativity in painting and drawing, staying fit with workouts at the gym, and spending time with her family.
